I am imagining a drone – whatever its purpose is – being free from human control, ongoing,
If nobody is controlling it, nobody are responsible, or liable. Presumably traces of connection can be removed.
Imagine that, a drone carrying out its task or mission, every day, for years, without a human being involved.
It can happen. There are already precedents.
Brinc has drones that will return to the charging station, charge for 20 minutes, then return to duty. All automatically.
Or we have this – Each DJI Dock houses a Matrice 30 where it lands, recharges, takes off, and executes missions programmed in DJI FlightHub 2.
Meanwhile the JOUAV system is described as “unmanned aircraft system”.
Someone can set these up, and have them do whatever mischief, hands-off. It is quite delicious and the possibilities are endless.
DOWNSIDE: There has to be a charging base and presumably the drones can be followed to it.
SOLUTION: Bases are remote and difficult to get to. Redundancy – when one base is taken out, another comes into play.
Sabotage – at arms length – is the purpose. Such a system can wait months or years for the perfect strike. And it cannot be traced back.
