Siekopai Get Their Own Land Back after 500 years

IN 2025, A small, indigenous nation that calls itself the “people of many colors” will go home for the first time in 80 years. Their return will drive a movement of indigenous peoples across the Amazon rainforest fighting for legal titles to their ancestral territories, and winning.

The Siekopai now number about 1,950 survivors, with 750 in Ecuador and 1,200 in Peru. And now they have permanent title to over 5 million acres of land. We can see a new (partial) trend of land being rewilded, with human custodians
